The fault occurred at around 6 am when an empty train, run daily before passenger services begin as part of standard operating procedure, developed a technical issue at the siding near GIFT City station. As a result, the first passenger train heading towards GIFT City was curtailed at PDEU station at 7.40 am, one station before its destination. Passengers aboard the train were ferried to GIFT City station by bus, GMRC said in a statement.

Train services to GIFT City were subsequently restored. Rectification work on the pilot train has been completed, and a three-member committee has been constituted to investigate the incident, said the corporation which operates eight sets of trains to GIFT City, most of which are in the morning and evening hours.
