Escalating their standoff with the government, INDIA bloc MPs marched to Jantar Mantar on Wednesday to launch a sit-in dharna, renewing demands for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged ‘vote chori’.
Top leaders such as Congress’ Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were detained after women MPs lay on the street resisting Delhi police’s refusal to allow them to stage protest at Jantar Mantar. Police said at least ten days advance permission has to be sought for holding any dharna. They said the standing prohibitory order against gathering was issued in compliance with a 2018 Supreme Court judgment.
