Goals from Sylla Sow, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Sam Hutchinson and Josh Windass saw Sheffield Wednesday beat Plymouth 4-2 in League One with Adam Randell and Marvin Johnson scoring the visitors.
Jack Hunt had a good chance of giving his teammates the first lead, hitting the side net with a shotgun when he found himself free on the right side of the area.
Mendez-Laing and Lee Gregory were both rescued by Michael Cooper on Wednesday before the win when a small cross found Sow (19), who hit Cooper with his first shot.
Gregory saw his shot hit the outside of the Mendez-Laing pillar before making it 2-0 as he cut in and twisted the ball inside Cooper’s left-hander.
Plymouth found their way past Bailey Peacock-Farrell two minutes after the start as Randell leaned against the defensive wall and passed the stretcher’s outstretched arm.
Hutchinson added a third and a header to make it 3-1.
Johnson’s goal in the 84th minute gave Plymouth hope but Windass sealed the victory and finished well in the instant.
