Mississippi School Faces Backlash After Offering Female Students Shapewear To Address Body Image Issues

A school in Mississippi is experiencing difficulties after providing clear clothing to female students in order to deal with physical problems.

Female students in Southaven Middle School was sent home with the letter, “Why Do Girls Suffer From Their Appearance?” The letter addressed the problem of physical appearance, and later the letter urged parents to provide their daughters with “good books” and colorful clothing. ”

“We, members of the Southaven Middle School, would like to have the opportunity to give your daughter some good books on maintaining good physical appearance,” says part of the letter, reads ABC 7.

Ashley Heun’s parents state: “It’s very difficult to bring up girls in social networking sites with Photoshop filters. They just see lots of beautiful pictures of the body. Heun sent an email to Southaven school principal John Sartain in response.

“The letter, unfortunately, changes unexpectedly by giving my daughter SHAPEWEAR,” read Huen’s email. If my daughter asked me for a dress, I would tell her no. Now I have found that you ENCOURAGE her to wear it. To be honest, I wonder how a ‘mentor’ who is a CHARGE of a child psychologist can really think it’s a good idea. ”

Later, this came to the attention of Lauren Margeson, DeSoto County dean principal of superintendent. Mr Margeson said in a statement that the province was aware of the situation. “The district has been notified of the parental consent form sent to parents by Southaven Middle School,” Margeson said. “Government officials understand the nature of such issues and concerns.”
