The driver was shot dead while two children were with him in a car Friday evening southwest of Miami-Dade, police said.
The shooting took place in Southwest 127th Avenue and 152nd Street, near Zoo Miami.
Police say a gray Lexus driver boarded the victim’s car, fired shots, then drove west on 152nd Street. Dashcam from a nearby car fired several shots.
“This man was too brave to open fire on the road in the middle of the driveway, with no thought of who would kill him,” said the Miami-Dade Police Det. Alvaro Zabaleta. “In that case, he could have killed a 1-year-old boy.”
A 5-year-old boy and a woman were also in the victim’s car, police said. The occupants were not harmed.
Police did not release the victim’s identity.
The Miami-Dade COVID-19 test facility at the Miami Zoo was temporarily closed overnight due to police action, the government announced.
