Man City manager Pep Guardiola says title race not done despite win over Chelsea

Pep Guardiola praised the important victory later Manchester City took a big step to save Premier League victory against Chelsea 1-0.

Kevin De Bruyne created a magical moment to end the fierce competition on Etihad Stadium Saturday is a smart goal 20 minutes to complete.

As a result, City’s 12th win in the league in a row has lifted them 13 points ahead of second-placed London at the top of the table.

Manager Guardiola, however, insisted the job was not over, saying third-placed Liverpool, 14 behind City with two games in hand, could reduce the gap.

The Spaniard said: “All the players gave everything and it was an important victory because they are very competitive.

“Once you get three points (against them) they can’t, of course, and there is one week left.

“But in January no one is a hero. We can imagine Chelsea, and Liverpool have a game in hand. Winners will be eight points and eight points in January.

“I want to win the game if we have to, and we should. I love football to be fair so, although I was happy to win with Arsenal, we were not worthy. Winning when you have to feel good.”

Guardiola is confident that his players will not be overwhelmed by their recent success and will allow themselves to be relaxed.

He said: “I know them. We’ve been together for six seasons and most of the guys know how to celebrate good times and suffer in bad, how they can be after all the games.

“They will hear people say things that are not true, but they know it is not.

“Hats off – 12 wins, 36 points, but in January it is almost impossible to finish.”

Chelsea sir Thomas Tuchel he was an opponent of the insurgency on his part, thinking it was part of their practice that offended the guests.

The German said: “In terms of attitude, dedication and wise security I am happy, we did not allow too much opportunity, we kept them from having too much opportunity.

“But our frustrated players need to be more visible. We need to be consistent.

“We would have had a lot of chances if we had played with a good, accurate time.

“That you miss the opportunity, there is no problem there, but we would have had more opportunities. That’s what I am against.

“The loss of the ball was very early and very bad and the decision-making process was not at the level we needed.

“Kevin De Bruyne’s good behavior changed today, but we struggled to show the race to hurt them and score the first goal and bring doubts into their game.”

Tuchel felt like a shooter Romelu Lukaku could have provided more.

There has been a lot of speculation about the player’s condition and his relationship with Tuchel recently, especially after recent discussions.

Tuchel said BT Sport: “Sometimes they do the ministry. He had a lot of football losses and a lot of chances. Yes we want to serve him but he is part of the team.

“Doing well in the first half, we can do very well.”
