John Williams Set To Retire

John Williams, who is quite possibly the world’s greatest living composer, looks set to hang up his baton and retire at the tender age of 90. Must be nice to earn so much coin that you can call it a day so early.

Williams is without a doubt a legend in the movie industry. He has literally given us all the soundtrack of our lives thanks to his musical genius and our love of film. I doubt any of us wouldn’t be able to instantly hum the theme tune to the likes of Star Wars, ET, Superman, Jaws, Harry Potter, Close Encounters, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and so on. The list seems endless.

“I see you have constructed a new musical banton. Your skills are complete. ”

Talking of Indiana Jones, the fifth installment is very likely going to be Williams’ swan song. Whilst talking about his future away from composing film scores, Williams said:

“At the moment I’m working on Indiana Jones 5, which Harrison Ford – who’s quite a bit younger than I am – I think has announced will be his last film. So I thought if Harrison could do it, then perhaps I could, too. ”

Harrison Ford (80) has not formally announced that he is retiring from acting and it’s obviously not the case as he is set to appear alongside Helen Mirren in a spinoff series for Yellowstone. However, Indiana Jones 5 might be his final film appearance.

John Williams Indy
Da Da Da-Daa Da Da Daaaaaa.

Williams might be using that rumor to spearhead his own retirement. He is not stopping himself from making music altogether though. He is currently dedicating himself to making his own music. He is currently composing concert music of his own including a piano concerto he is writing for Emanuel Ax.

John and Steve
Err John, maybe doing THAT salute whilst standing next to Steve isn’t the best idea you’ve ever had mate.

Williams has won five Oscars, 25 Grammys and 52 Academy Award nominations and was described by Steven Spielberg as:

“The single most significant contributor to my success as a filmmaker. Without John Williams, bikes don’t really fly, ”he said.

John Williams, we salute you sir. For without your iconic music over the last 50 years at least, cinema and our own personal memories of growing up would not be nearly as magnificent as they are. Thank you.
