I got to finally see The Northman yesterday. Easily one of the best movies of the year. To balance things out a bit, I sat down in the evening and watched The Lost City.

The Lost City stars Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Brad Pitt. It is directed by Aaron & Adam Nee and written by them with Oren Uziel and Dana Fox. This was quite a lot of people working on such a simple script.

“A reclusive romance novelist on a book tour with her cover model gets swept up in a kidnapping attempt that lands them both in a cutthroat jungle adventure.”

It’s pretty much Romance in the Stone for 2022, but in a good way. Firstly, I didn’t notice anything woke up in the movie. It seemed all the politics had been moved aside so they could just make a fun movie. That will never catch on!

The cast is good. Bullock plays the same role she always plays, there’s no real flexing of her acting muscles here at all. Tatum is very funny though. I know a lot of people aren’t a fan of him, but I find him pretty inoffensive. In this, he is just making fun of himself and he’s great at it.

He plays Alan, basically a cover model who would like to be the guy in the books, but has zero skills in real life. I kind of imagine this could be a reflection of Tatum.

The stand-outs are Radcliffe and Pitt. Pitt isn’t in it much, but he steals the show when he does appear. Radcliffe is the bad guy and he has a lot of fun with it. He’s pretty much playing the same guy from Now You See Me 2but with or without the accent, I forget now.

The overall story and script were actually pretty good. There are some funny throwaway lines in there that kept me giggling. The story, while not Shakespeare, is enough to keep you engaged with all the characters.

I found The Lost City to be good entertainment. It’s not going to win any Oscars, but it was a fun romp with a decent cast. A great date movie. I would watch it again if it were on TV or streaming. I know it may not be everyone’s bag, but I did enjoy watching it and I don’t think it was a waste of my time.

As I said, it reminded me of Romancing The Stone. That is a movie that I can’t say is in my top ten list of anything like that, but if it’s on, I’ll watch it again for sh * ts and giggles.

If you compare this to the other recent movies like it, Uncharted and Red Notice, this is way more enjoyable and watchable. Good entertainment.
