5 Titles You Should Look Forward To From Summer Game Fest Play Days

Summer Game Fest is well underway, with a host of live streams and reveals happening in early June. These came from the likes of Sony, Microsoft, Capcom and Summer Game Fest itself.

The events showed off an array of different titles, spanning from your big AAAs to your smaller indie games.

I was lucky enough to attend Summer Game Fest Play Days in LA and got to go hands-on with a bunch of these games. Here are five that I played that you should definitely keep an eye on.

5. Time Flies

The premise, and look, of Time Flies is simple. You play as a fly with an extremely short lifespan, aiming to complete as many different tasks from your bucket list as possible. These range from getting drunk, getting rich, learning an instrument and starting a revolution.

These tasks are a little cryptic, so it’s down to you, as the fly, to make your way around a house ticking things off as you go.

It’s certainly not the deepest game on the list, but it’s shaping up to be a great time. It looks all set to be one of those indie games that will only take a couple of hours to complete, and that’s okay with us!

4. Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course

Cuphead is an indie Hall-of-Famer. It initially released five years ago and was instantly revered for its music, art-style and hard-as-nails gameplay. Fast forward to 2022 and its first major DLC, The Delicious Last Course, is on the horizon.

The DLC takes players to the biggest island yet and is full of even more of everything we loved.

If you enjoyed the base game, the DLC is going to be a must-play.

3. Birth

Birth is a strange one. Following themes of loneliness and everything else that comes with moving to a new city, the game sees you completing a range of puzzles to collect bones and organs, that will in turn help you create a new friend.

The puzzles are clever, the art style great and the premise strange enough to ensure that Birth makes its way onto this list.

We are very much looking forward to this one. You can read our thoughts on what we played right here.

2. Escape Academy

Possibly the biggest surprise of Summer Game Fest Play Days for me was Escape Academy.

You attend a school, aiming to become one of the world’s greatest escape artists. Along the way, you’ll be placed into a bunch of different escape rooms, completing puzzles and trying to, well, escape.

The game can be played both single-player and co-op and it’s an absolute blast.

1. Roots of Pacha

Roots of Pacha looks like it could be the next Stardew Valley.

The game takes the charm and some of the core elements from Chucklefish’s legendary-farming sim and twists them in a very clever way.

The game is set in the Stone Age and, therefore, you’re without any of the traditional tools required to effectively run a farm. Instead, it’s down to you and your fellow villagers to discover these tools and practices to ensure that you can build the perfect village and shape humanity.

We got to go hands-on, and you can read our thoughts right here.
